The Abbotsford Board of Education regularly meets throughout the school year. Agendas and minutes from the public Board Meetings can be accessed through the District's Electronic School Board. Below is a summary of highlights from the meeting.
ASIA North Poplar students offered the Trustees a glimpse into the world of an Integrated Arts school. They will discuss what it's like to learn in such an environment and share their passion for the arts. This presentation highlights the unique approach to education at ASIA and its impact on student creativity and development.
Select students from the Rock Band performed, demonstrating not only their musical talent but also the role of performing arts in enhancing student engagement and success.
Karen Dickenson Smith, Executive Director, and her team from FVCDC provided an overview of the FVCDC and the ong history of supporting students in the Abbotsford School District with Occupational Therapy (OT), Physiotherapy (PT), and the CALM Social Emotional Learning framework www.connectwithcalm.ca. The FVCDC collaborates with teachers, principals, education assistants, and School District office staff to maximize student service.
An update was provided by Acting Director of Instruction Elementary/Early Learning, Donna Wright, on the progress in Childcare, Early Learning, Literacy, student well-being and Excellence in Leadership.
Deputy Superintendent Nathan Ngieng provided an update to the Board on progress made in areas of the District’s Strategic Plan related to strategic goals for ‘Student Success,’ with a focus on middle schools.
Assistant Superintendent Jay Pankratz provided a report to the Education Committee highlighting the work done in our secondary schools and the plans underway to support the success of students this year.
Superintendent Nosek provided an update on the renewal of the Local Education Agreement, which has been signed and is in effect until 2027.
A recommendation was put forward THAT the Board of Education serve Notice of Intent that the 2024-25, 2025-26 and 2026-27 Local School Calendars will be presented for debate and vote at a regular meeting of the Board on March 12, 2024.
Secretary-Treasurer Velestuk provided the Board of Education with updates on Second Quarter Financial Report.
A recommendation was put forward THAT the Board of Education approve having all three readings of the Capital Plan Bylaw No. 2023/24-CPSD34-03 in this one meeting.
A recommendation was put forward THAT the Board of Education approve Policy 6 - Trustee Code of Ethics with Appendix 1, as presented.
Secretary-Treasurer Velestuk presented to the Board of Education information for changes to Board Policy 18 – School Catchment Areas for review.
Secretary-Treasurer Velestuk provided the Board of Education with information about a request for the use of Facilities.
